A delicious and comforting casserole made with yams and apples, topped with a sweet and spiced mixture.

- 2 large yams, peeled and cubed
- 3 apples, peeled and sliced
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup butter, melted
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1/2 cup pecans, chopped (optional)
- 1/4 cup raisins (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the cubed yams and sliced apples.
- In a separate bowl, mix the brown sugar, melted butter, cinnamon, and nutmeg until well combined.
- Pour the sugar mixture over the yams and apples, and toss gently to coat evenly.
- If using, stir in the chopped pecans and raisins.
- Transfer the mixture into a greased casserole dish.
- Cover with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes.
- Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the yams are tender and the top is slightly caramelized.
- Allow to cool for a few minutes before serving.
