Description
This Carnivore Egg-in-a-Hole is a simple yet satisfying breakfast, combining juicy ground beef and runny egg yolks. Perfect for a protein-rich, low-carb start to the day.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 tablespoon cooking fat (tallow, butter, or ghee)
- 12 ounces ground beef (preferably 80/20 for optimal fat content)
- 3 small eggs
- Salt to taste (optional)
- Optional: Ground black pepper
- Optional: Bone broth for added moisture
- Optional: A sprinkle of crushed pork rinds for texture
Instructions
- Heat your cooking fat of choice in a large skillet over medium-high heat until melted and hot.
- Add the ground beef to the hot skillet, breaking it up with a spatula into small pieces.
- Season with salt if desired and cook for about 3-4 minutes until it begins to brown.
- Using the back of a large spoon, create three indentations or ‘nests’ in the ground beef to cradle your eggs.
- Make sure these indentations are deep enough and wide enough to hold an egg without spilling over.
- Carefully crack an egg into each indentation in the meat.
- Season the eggs with additional salt if desired.
- Cover the skillet with a lid to help the eggs cook evenly.
- Cook for 3-5 minutes, depending on how you prefer your egg yolks (3 minutes for runny, 5 minutes for more set).
- Remove from heat once the egg whites are set but the yolks are still to your liking.
- Carefully transfer to plates and serve immediately.
Notes
- Use room temperature eggs to help them cook more evenly and reduce the chance of cracking the yolks when adding them to the hot meat.
- Don’t skip covering the skillet; the steam created helps cook the egg whites while keeping the yolks creamy.
- For meal prep, pre-cook the meat bases and simply reheat and add fresh eggs when ready to eat.
