Chocolate-Dipped Fortune Cookies combine the crunch of traditional fortune cookies with the sweetness of chocolate, making them an irresistible dessert perfect for special occasions or personalized gifts.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large egg whites, room temperature
  • 3 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 70g plain flour
  • 80g caster sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cornflour
  • Pinch of salt
  • 23 tablespoons water (as needed)
  • 60g dark chocolate, chopped (or chocolate chips)
  • 1 tablespoon desiccated coconut (optional, for garnish)
  • Sprinkles, chopped nuts, or other toppings (optional)

Instructions

  1. Cut small strips of paper and write your personalized fortunes.
  2. Preheat oven to 160°C (320°F). Line a baking sheet with a non-stick baking mat or parchment paper.
  3. Whisk egg whites, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract until frothy but not stiff.
  4. Mix plain flour, caster sugar, cornflour, and salt in a separate bowl.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the egg white mixture, stirring until smooth. Add water if needed.
  6. Place 1 tablespoon of batter onto the prepared baking sheet and spread it into a thin circle.
  7. Bake for 5-7 minutes or until the edges turn golden brown.
  8. Working quickly, place a fortune strip in the center of each cookie while still hot.
  9. Fold the cookie in half to form a semi-circle, then shape it over a muffin tin to create the classic shape.
  10. Place the shaped cookies in a muffin tin to cool completely.
  11. Melt the dark chocolate and dip half of each fortune cookie into it.
  12. Sprinkle with desiccated coconut or chosen toppings while chocolate is still wet.
  13. Place the dipped cookies on parchment paper and allow the chocolate to set completely.

Notes

  • Work quickly with shaping and baking as fortune cookies harden rapidly as they cool.
  • Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 week to maintain crispness.
