Description
A hearty and healthy one-skillet dish featuring layers of sweet potatoes, seasoned ground meat, and creamy yogurt topped with mozzarella, perfect for a comforting family dinner.

- 2 large sweet potatoes, peeled and sliced
- 1 pound ground beef or lamb
- 1 medium onion, diced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 can (15 oz) crushed tomatoes
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 cup Greek yogurt
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Fresh parsley for garnish
Instructions
- In a large skillet, heat a tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat. Add the diced onion and cook until translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
- Add the minced garlic to the skillet and sauté for an additional minute until fragrant.
- Increase the heat to medium-high and add the ground beef or lamb. Cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spatula, about 6-8 minutes.
- Stir in the crushed tomatoes, oregano, cinnamon, salt, and pepper. Bring to a simmer, then reduce the heat and let it cook for 10 minutes.
- While the meat mixture simmers, bring a separate pot of water to a boil. Add the sweet potato slices and cook until tender, about 8-10 minutes.
- Drain the sweet potatoes and layer half of them on top of the meat mixture in the skillet.
- Spread half of the Greek yogurt over the sweet potato layer, then add the remaining sweet potato slices on top.
- Finally, spread the rest of the Greek yogurt and sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese on top.
- Cover the skillet with a lid and cook on low heat for 10-15 minutes, until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Remove the skillet from the heat, garnish with fresh parsley, and serve hot.
Notes
- For a vegetarian version, substitute ground meat with lentils or mushrooms.
- Feel free to add other vegetables or spices to enhance the flavor.
